Research on chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) genetic diversity

An effective selection of parents for hybridization requires a plant breeder to consider the genetic variety available germplasm, hence research on diversity were carried out with 20 genotypes chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) at Crop Research Institute.Center-1, School Agriculture, ITM University, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), during Rubi season 2022-23. The D2 Twenty examined divergence using statistics. These broadly divided into three clusters based distance. most found in Clusters 1 and 2, 7, followed by Cluster 3 6. Among different characters studied, Number fruits per cluster (11.02%) contributed days 50% flowering provide greatest total among genotypes. (10.90%), first (10.61%), yield (8.76%), number flowers (7.95%) fruit diameter (7.54%). 2 displayed minimum intra-cluster distance (2.283) while had maximum inter-cluster (2.719). genetically more diverse from intercluster could be used programmes produce promising segregants.
